The Greens/EFA Group co-president says that EU policy is tokenistic while the Roma minority continue to be marginalised in most societies in Europe. He calls for the EU to create an official statute for the Roma minority and a detailed strategy to imporve their situation. The framework must be developed together with organisations representing the Roma themselves, not a top-down paternalistic approach from the EU.
