Video statements of the speakers

Olivier Marquet (Director of Triodos Bank, Belgium), Ann Pettifor (Executive Director of Advocacy International) and Sven Giegold (economist and founding member of Attac Germany) give their views on the roots of the financial crisis what measures must now be taken.

They were speaking at a Greens/EFA conference on "the consequences of the financial crisis" on 13 November 2008.

Video statement of Green MEP Pierre Jonckheer

Pierre Jonckheer, Vice-president of the Greens/EFA Group, explains the conference's aim to highlight the Commission's failure to regulate financial markets. He also outlines how a Green New Deal could mark a change of direction.

Video statement of Green MEP Caroline Lucas

UK Green MEP Caroline Lucas welcomed that the conference recognised that we don't only face a financial crisis, but a looming climate crisis and situation of peak oil too. A Green New Deal, she argues, would help to turn the economy in the right direction.
